PNG to JPG questions, answered
Why convert PNG to JPG?
Smaller file size for photographs and screenshots, especially for email or web upload. A 5 MB PNG can drop to 400 KB as JPG at 90% quality with no visible difference.
What happens to transparent regions?
JPG doesn't support an alpha channel, so any transparent pixels get flattened against white before the encode. If you need a different background colour, do the flatten step in your image editor first.
What quality should I pick?
85–92% is the sweet spot — visually indistinguishable from the original for almost all photos and screenshots, with the biggest size savings. Below 70% you start seeing artefacts; above 95% the file balloons with no visible gain.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser via the Canvas API. DevTools → Network will confirm — no request carries your image off your device.
