What is site structure?
How your pages link together: the homepage at the top, sections below it, detail pages at the end. A clear structure helps Google find every page and helps people find what they came for.
What goes wrong

Reading the results
How to read your results
Click depth is the fewest clicks it takes to reach a page from the homepage. Keep your important pages within 3.
Orphan pages are in your sitemap but nothing links to them: link to them from a related page, or take them out of the sitemap. Pages missing from the sitemap are the opposite: linked, but not listed.
The tree puts each page under the page that first links to it. Switch to By folders to see your URL structure instead. Planning a bigger change? How does the website structure checker work?
Enter your address and we follow the links on your site from the homepage, up to 250 or 500 pages, while reading your XML sitemap. We then compare the two to find broken links, orphan pages, pages buried too deep and gaps in your sitemap.
What is an orphan page?
A page with no internal links pointing to it. We flag pages that are in your sitemap but that none of the pages we checked link to. If the crawl stopped before the whole site was checked, the report says so, because the link could be on a page we did not reach.
What is click depth?
The fewest clicks it takes to reach a page from the homepage by following real links. Keep important pages within 3 clicks: deeper pages tend to be crawled less often and rank lower.
What if my site doesn't have a sitemap?
The crawl still works from your links, and the report flags the missing sitemap. Most platforms (WordPress with Yoast or Rank Math, Shopify, Webflow, Squarespace) can create one for you. If your sitemap is somewhere unusual, add its address under I have a specific sitemap URL.
What if my site blocks crawlers?
If the homepage refuses us, or robots.txt blocks our crawler (SEOFirstWeb), we read your sitemap instead and tell you that links were not checked. If the sitemap is blocked too, paste your page URLs or sitemap XML and the check runs in your browser.
How many pages can it check?
Up to 500 pages per check and 600 pages a day from one connection. Sitemaps are read up to 10,000 URLs. For bigger sites, check one section at a time or use a desktop crawler.
How is the score worked out?
It starts at 100 and each problem takes off points, more when it affects more pages. Broken links cost the most, then orphan pages, deep pages and sitemap errors. The report shows exactly where every point went.
Can I export the results?
Yes. Every finding has Copy and CSV buttons, the full page list downloads as CSV (click depth, status, sitemap, links in, title and problems), the tree saves as PNG or SVG, and Print report gives a clean A4 summary.
Will this slow down or harm my site?
No. We fetch public pages only, 4 at a time with a short pause between them, obey robots.txt, and never log in or submit forms.
Do you store my data?
No. Pages are fetched, checked and discarded, and nothing is saved on our side. A shared results link holds only your domain, and the check runs again when someone opens it.
How is this different from a desktop crawler?
A desktop crawler gives far more detail and handles very large sites, but needs installing and setting up. This checker runs in your browser and turns the crawl into a short list of fixes. Use it for a quick structure check; use a desktop crawler for sites with thousands of pages.
