FAQ

Add page numbers questions, answered

Can I start the numbering at something other than 1?

Yes. Use the "Start at" field to set any starting number — useful when this PDF continues another document, or when you want a cover page to be unnumbered ("page 1") and the body to start at the next page (set start to 0 so the second page becomes page 1).

What formats are supported?

Three: plain ("1", "2", "3"), labelled ("Page 1", "Page 2") and total ("1 of 24", "2 of 24"). If you need Roman numerals or other custom formats, drop us a line.

Can I skip certain pages?

Not in this version — every page gets a number. Skipping specific pages (e.g. the cover and table of contents) is on the roadmap. Workaround for now: split off the pages you want to skip, number the rest, then merge.

What position should I use?

Bottom-centre is the standard for most documents — it stays clear of body content and headers. Top-right or bottom-right are common for printed reports. The position picker has all six possibilities.

Does the font size matter?

10–12pt is the standard for body documents. 14–16pt works for documents intended to be skimmed quickly. Avoid going below 8pt — it gets hard to read on print.
