FAQ

Image Resizer questions, answered

Will my image lose quality when resized?

Downscaling (e.g. 4000×3000 → 1080×810) is high-quality — modern browsers use bicubic-style filtering. Upscaling (e.g. 500×500 → 2000×2000) inevitably introduces blur because the extra pixels are interpolated rather than real. For genuine upscaling, our AI Upscaler tool (coming Phase 3) does a much better job.

Does the lock-aspect-ratio toggle work in batches?

Yes. With lock on, each file shrinks to fit inside the target box while keeping its own aspect ratio. So a 2:3 portrait dropped into a 1080×1080 box becomes 720×1080, not stretched to 1080×1080.

What output format do I get?

The same format you put in. Drop JPG, get JPG. Drop PNG, get PNG. Drop WebP, get WebP. For format conversion, use one of our dedicated converters (JPG↔PNG, WebP Convert, etc.).

Why is the resized PNG so big?

PNG is lossless — re-saving keeps every pixel. If you also need a smaller file, convert to JPG or WebP after resizing using our other tools.

Can I resize to a maximum size instead of exact?

Yes, that's effectively what locked-aspect does — your image fits inside the target box without exceeding either dimension. Want a hard "no larger than 1MB" target? Try the Image Compressor — it scales by quality, not dimensions.
