FAQ

SERP Checker questions, answered

Where does the SERP data come from?

Serper.dev — a third-party Google SERP API. Each query returns the real top-10 Google results for the keyword, the same data Google would show a logged-out visitor in the chosen market. We switched to Serper after Bing's Search API retired in August 2025 and Brave killed its free tier in February 2026.

How accurate is this compared to opening Google myself?

Very close. The rankings, titles and descriptions match Google's public SERP for the chosen country and language. Personalised results (based on signed-in history or location) will differ — this tool returns the logged-out, market-default view, which is what you want for competitive research anyway.

Why is there a 20 queries / day limit?

Serper's free tier gives us 2,500 one-off credits across all visitors. The 20/day per-IP cap keeps the free runway usable for everyone. The limit resets at midnight UTC; cached queries (same keyword + country + count within 24 h) do not count against it.

What happens when the free credits run out?

The tool falls back to a friendly "being set up" message. We do not auto-top-up — when the free 2,500 are gone, the tool pauses until someone on our side decides whether to add paid credits ($5 buys ~16,000 more queries). The other free tools on this site are unaffected; only the three SERP-backed ones share the Serper budget.

Can I check rankings for my own URL specifically?

Not in this tool — it returns the top-10 for the keyword, not the position of any particular URL. For your own site, Google Search Console gives you accurate, granular position tracking for free with no daily cap.

Why are SERP-feature flags useful?

They tell you whether Google is showing People Also Ask, a Knowledge Panel, Videos, Top Stories or a Local Pack for this keyword. If the SERP has a heavy Local Pack, the query has local intent and a pure content page will not rank well. If People Also Ask is present, those are obvious sub-topics for your content.
