FAQ

Watermark PDF questions, answered

What watermark text should I use?

Common choices: "CONFIDENTIAL" (the default) for internal documents, "DRAFT" for work-in-progress, "COPY" for distribution copies, your company name for branded distribution, or "SAMPLE" for content marked for review. Keep it short — the longer the text, the smaller it has to be to fit diagonally.

Can the watermark be removed later?

Honestly: yes, by someone determined. A text watermark is drawn into the PDF content stream — someone with a PDF editor (Acrobat Pro, Foxit, Sejda) can remove it. A watermark says "this is the official copy, don't share it" — it's a deterrent and an audit trail, not a security measure.

What opacity should I pick?

25–35% is the sweet spot — visible enough to register, faint enough that the body text behind it stays readable. Crank to 50% if you want it loud, drop to 15% for a subtle "draft" tag that won't distract reviewers.

Can I add an image watermark (a logo)?

Not in this tool — it does text only. For an image/logo watermark, the typical workflow is: export your logo as a PNG with transparent background → use a desktop PDF tool that supports image overlays. We may add image watermarks later if there's demand.

Does the watermark appear on the printed copy too?

Yes. It's drawn into the page content, so it prints just like any other text. That's the point — a "DRAFT" watermark that disappears on print would be pointless.
